A note from me the artist
I have said before a connection to my work and what I make is needed, emotions and memories invested in what I create. I have found that my best work comes from time spent with people I love, friends and family, and of course my dogs. Or with this collection I have also found that the memory of place or time with someone I have loved has also come into play.
The landscape can be familiar or new; the important thing is the connection with another, enjoying the company of people and investing time with them, or remembering them, all whilst walking. This creates an emotional connection with the place which I hope can be seen in my work. Walks are my most valuable resource of inspiration.
This exhibition of 18 pictures have been inspired by several days all spent with my family. My loved ones.
Suilven Pictures
5 pictures from a day climbing Suilven
At the beginning of June 2023 a group of close friends and family met to climb Suilven. we did this for and with my daughter Shona. Shona has a rare auto immune disease (GPA autoimmune disease) that has and will continue to effect her health. It has been a scary time for her and us as her family. It is one of those illnesses called ‘life limiting’. But Shona is so full of life in her personality that it has in so many ways been life affirming as well.
We climbed Suilven as it is her middle name and therefore apt, but mainly to raise awareness and money to help research into her condition to help others too. When making these pictures for me they felt like making a visual love letter to her. Mother to daughter. A celebration of her and the mountain she is named after.

Sinclairs Bay Pictures.
3 pictures from a favourite place.
The beaches of Reiss and Keiss are separated by the River Wester. Together they form a great sweep of sand around Sinclairs Bay on the East Coast of Caithness near Wick. They are wide windswept beaches that are in general wonderfully unspoilt places and the ultimate joy is that often you can get them to yourself or almost to yourself. Because of this I can let my 3 dogs run, and it is such a beautiful sight of joy to see them do so.
For that alone these beaches are a favourite place. A place to lift the spirits.
But also because they are often walked with friends too. Close friends. Valued friends. You know who you are. Thank you x.
These beaches have indeed become friends in themselves. A place where I feel lifted and happy.

The Kissing Gate Series
4 Smaller Pictures Featuring the Kissing Gate
These 4 smaller pictures are full of sentiment for me. The inspiration came from a coastal walk with my family but the feeling behind them is from walks with my own family when I was a child. They are a wonderfully happy memory of my dad. A memory I am so glad to have.
It is safe to say that my dad was a character and not everyone’s ‘cup of tea’, but those who were close loved him very much. I think I take after him and I’m happy with that.
These pictures are so full of love for him.

Holiday Mementoes
4 Smaller Pictures Based on Holiday Walks
We almost always holiday in Scotland. A result of owning 3 dogs really. And because of having 3 dogs we often spend much of our time on holiday walking with them.
That’s OK, I love both my dogs and Scotland. And it means I get to spend some valuable time walking, talking and spending time with my family.
These 4 little pictures are all based from spending time in the Borders earlier this year.

The Stand Alones
And Then There Were 2
The final 2 pictures are stand alone pictures.
One from a glorious summer days walk with my youngest daughter and her friend, out along the Chanonry Point to the lighthouse and then back into Fortrose again. The light was warm too. A much visited place from where you can see dolphins if you are lucky. I have been lucky several times to do just that
The 2nd from a birthday walk with my husband last year. It’s had a change of name because it deserved it.

Artist Information
The work is developed using layering of various techniques.
Drawing is important, it is the primary step to each piece. I draw simply in black biro, within sketch books, trying to capture the movement and feelings of the place.
The final pieces start with paint reflecting the sketch, which is used to define colour value, informing the following layers. These next layers are collage - both fabric and paper – then, finally, machine and hand embroidery. The resulting work is both considered, and intuitive, with several dimensions to it: image, composition, colour, line and texture.
Please Note -
Colour representation is as accurate as I can make it, therefore it may be slightly different is real life
All the artwork shown in situ, in the rooms, is done by a digital app, therefore again there will be slight differences in real life.
