Path to Rackwick
Path to Rackwick Bay – Hoy
This is a truly magical place a place like no other. It is in essence like the West Coast of Scotland and that is apt as it is the west coast of Orkney, I grew up on the west coast of Scotland so instantly I felt an affinity here. But it is a natural phenomenon, just where did all those wonderfully round boulders come from. Giant marbles on a beach.
We spent a several days here at Rackwick and I found that I was as taken by the croft buildings and their juxtaposition together on the route the beach as much as the beach itself and that really was what resulted in the inspiration for this picture.
But most of my memories tied to here are of my dog. She was old by this stage and died later in the year. We spent time here together on this beach and I am thankful for that.
